It operates using R290 refrigerant, an environmentally friendly hydrocarbon, to maintain cold temperatures set by the electronic controller. The unit is insulated with 3 inches of polyurethane foam and fitted with two full-height, solid doors to help lock in cold air.

For durability and corrosion resistance, the Continental 2RESN reach-in refrigerator has a stainless steel front with aluminum sides and interior. The refrigeration system is self-contained and mounted atop the unit to prevent exhaust from entering the cabinet. The automatic evaporator reduces condensate development.
